Step by step guide for choosing the correct Intra-Ocular Lens or IOL, for cataract surgery:
What are the Different Types of IOL Lenses?

1. Monofocal IOL
It is a common IOL lens that has a fixed focus set for far distance - providing excellent clear distance vision. However, there is a need to use reading glasses for near, fine print work.
2. Multifocal IOL

It provides vision correction at multiple distances. These kinds of lenses are designed to replace glasses and cater to both near and far-sighted vision. However, the lens design has rings in it for different foci, which sometimes causes halos in the vision, especially in night time.
3. Toric IOLs
These cataract lenses are suggested when a patient has a cylinderical power in addition to the cataract. The cylinderical power is usually caused by changes in shape of the cornea. Basically, toric lenses are designed to correct “Astigmatism”. Use of Toric IOLs requires special intrumentation during the cataract surgery, the goal here again is to reduce the need for distance glasses post cataract surgery.
4. Extended depth of focus IOLs

If you are finding the best lens for cataract surgery then you may opt for extended depth of focus IOLs or EDOF IOLs. These provide for continued focus range for distance, intermediae and near vision. As compared to multifcal IOLs, there are no rings in the design and therefore no or limited chances of experiencing colored halos around light, especially at night time. EDOF IOLs remain the top choice for lenses post cataract surgery in our practice today.
Cost of Cataract Surgery in Delhi:
Depends largely on the type of lens used. Monofocal Lenses being the most affordable, cost starting from Rs 30,000 INR. While the EDOF Lenses are considered premium with costs ranging from 90,000 to 1,30,000 INR.
Further, the technique of cataract surgery impacts the costs. With Micro-Incisional Cataract Surgery (MICS) being the standard of care, and Femtosecond Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS) being at a more premium cost.
